New 2009-10 NBA Jersey Review

Nothing too dramatic this year as far as new jerseys. Some new road alternates and throwbacks. Only teams to get a whole new uniform design are the Charlotte Bobcats and Philadelphia 76ers.

HOUSTON ROCKETS ROAD ALTERNATES: Unfortunately, the Rockets are still wearing probably the worst uniforms in the NBA right now in my opinion(theirs and the Suns are a toss-up for worst) but they have these new road alternates with a retro feel...same colors as the 80-early 90's uniforms. Overall i like these and they need to switch to these or something similar for their main uniform!
DALLAS MAVERICKS ROAD ALTERNATES: Not very exciting. Same design as their previous road alternates but they changed from green to blue. This is a really nice color of blue...but I can't decide if I like these or the green ones better...again like the Rockets, these are better than their main uniforms.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS THROWBACKS: I like the shorts a lot! The jersey is kind of boring though. Not much more to say, overall they should look pretty cool on court.


UTAH JAZZ THROWBACK: Nice! These are a throwback to the New Orleans Jazz colors. Again, the shorts are great. Reminds me of Seattle Sonics which is never a bad thing.
CLEVELAND CAVALIERS THROWBACK: Nice uniform design, UGLY colors. Just like the orange/blue ones they wore last year which were great, but ugly. Fuqq the Cavs anyway though.
PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS THROWBACKS/ALTERNATES(?): Not sure if the white ones are alternates or what but the red ones are definitely throwbacks. Both are to celebrate the 40th(I believe) anniversary of the Blazers. The red throwbacks are a classic jersey of the Bill Walton era Blazers. The current Blazers unis are my favorite in the NBA and the red throwback is the best of this year's crop. Good job Blazers!

CHARLOTTE BOBCATS: These are decent but not great. I like the pinstripes which seems to be a reference to the old Charlotte Hornets jerseys. My problem is they look too much like the Orlando Magic's hideous jerseys. I'm not sure how i feel about the way the v-neck is designed on these either. The checkered ones are in celebration of NASCAR and the Charlotte Motor speedway or whatever. They did the checkered design last year on their previous unis as well. Apparently racing is a big deal in Charlotte. I think the checkered ones are stupid but yet kinda cool at the same time. It's just cool to see something different.

PHILADELPHIA 76ERS: At LEAST 3 million times better than the uniforms they wore for the past 10 or so years. The fact that they went back to their old logo, exactly the way it used to be, is excellent. The uniforms fall just a little short of how good they could be though. I don't like the goofy v-neck. I don't understand the trend of these v-necks on almost every new jersey in the past couple of years. Not sure about the shimmery blue trim either. Overall, a nice simple design with just a couple small things I don't like.

I think this is everything for this year. If i missed anything I'll update later.

EDIT: OK, so I found out that I missed a bunch of stuff...and almost all of it is better than what I already reviewed. Mostly throwbacks....


MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES ROAD ALTERNATES: uuuuuuuuuuuglyyy! the colors are nice but that's it. the shimmery material needs to be banned in the NBA.

ATLANTA HAWKS ATL ALTERNATES: Let me start out by saying I was very disappointed when the Hawks changed their colors a couple years ago. The colors are boring. They used to have the unique red white and yellow but the;y changed to red and blue which half the teams in the NBA already use. I'm not gonna say too much about these since i havent even seen a real picture yet. these seem ok. I really like the red road alternate uniforms that Portland, Detroit and New Jersey wear and these seem to be the same thing going on so that's cool. I'm hoping Joe Johnson will have some sort of all red Jordan Player Editions on nights they wear these.

ORLANDO MAGIC THROWBACKS: YES!!!! One of the all-time best uniforms in the NBA. I'm buying those shorts if they are for sale sometime this year.


TORONTO RAPTORS "HUSKIES" THROWBACKS: Very unique and unexpected. Apparently there was once some kind of basketball team in Toronto called the Huskies. According to the numbers on this sample jersey it was in the 40's. I really like the fact that they designed the shorts to look like there is a belt in them which uniforms from that time had. I'll have to do a little research on the Huskies to see what they were all about.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES THROWBACKS: I saved the best for last! I am so happy to see these. Again, like the Magic throwbacks, another one of my all-time favorites. The design for all of the 1988 expansion teams were so good!. The original T-wolves, Magic, Heat, and Charlotte Hornets jerseys are all some of the best ever. Look at that "WOLVES" font...it's beautiful! Did their original shorts have logos on both legs though? I'll have to consult some old Tom Gugliotta cards...
